If you’re looking for a high quality, warm winter jacket for your cat, this may be the jacket for you. Hurrta is a company based in Finland, where winters are certainly cold, so they probably know what they’re doing. The Extreme Warmer is one of the warmest jackets that Hurrta sells, along with the Expedition Parka.
Note: This review is based on the Extreme Warmer V1 (I have the Size 12, Lingon colour). There is also an Eco version, which is made of 100% recycled materials, and the newer V2, which has some minor improvements to the back adjustments and a slightly softer material.

Features
- Insulated jacket with reflective foil lining to reflect body heat.
- Back length adjustment with elastic, and a snap under the tail to keep the coat in place.
- Sizes 10″ – 26″.
Smaller cats should fit a size 10, average cats size 12, and larger cats size 14. - Elastic bands to attach to back legs.
- Two leash openings on size 12 and up.
- High hood that can be pulled up to cover ears
What I liked
- Jacket length. This jacket is one of the longer jackets on the market, and as cats have longer bodies than dogs, this fits better than most other options.
- Warmth and design. This jacket is high quality and the reflective foil makes it seem warmer than other options. It has a decent amount of insulation for warmth.
- Hood design. I really like how this jacket has a cinched hood so you can pull it up and cover your cat’s ears, and also pull it down when its not needed. Cat’s ears are most susceptible to frostbite, so the hood is very useful.
- Jacket design. I like how this jacket has a strap that goes around the belly, but buckles on the top. My cat gets feisty if I fiddle around his belly, so this is a good design for my cat. I also like how the design of this jacket covers the chest area and provides more warmth, instead of just two straps like some cheaper jackets have.
- Leash openings. This jacket has two leash openings, which make it easy to attach to any harness.
- Looks. I think this jacket looks really stylish! The colour selections are very nice as well.

What I didn’t like
- Snap enclosure behind the tail. While this may work better for dogs, I found that because the length of the jacket is a few inches too short, the snap enclosure makes the jacket ride up, and also looks quite uncomfortable. But if I don’t use the snaps, the back of the jacket flares out and lets cold air in, and the shape can look a little awkward. The location of the snaps may also be problematic if the cat had to use the bathroom.

- Length of jacket. As with every single dog jacket out there, the length is not long enough for a cat’s body. Although this is a complaint, this jacket is one of the longer length jackets on the market.
- Jacket material. This jacket does provide warmth when dry, but when used in wet snow or rain, I found that the moisture can soak through the top layer of the jacket. For a jacket that is designed to be used in snow, I find this a major flaw. This may be because of the climate in Vancouver, where the snow is usually close to the melting point, so it feels much wetter. This may not be as much of an issue in dryer or colder areas.

- Price point and availability. This jacket is one of the most expensive pet jackets you could get and can be hard to find here in Canada.
Recommendation
I would recommend the Hurrta Extreme Warmer if you are planning on bringing your cat on adventures over the winter months, and you are looking to invest in a quality winter jacket for your cat to be used for many years. I would recommend you to buy this from somewhere with a good return policy, or try it on in store, because the sizing doesn’t always fit cats perfectly. I also recommend you layer this jacket with something underneath, like a sweater or fleece, for extra warmth.
Lastly, I would not recommend you to rely on this jacket to keep your cat warmer than a couple of degrees, because unlike human jackets, it doesn’t cover the entire body, and cats will definitely still feel cold in extreme winter weather.
